In this episode of Transfer Nation Talks, we investigate the development and impact of dedicated institutional transfer, first-generation student programming with Julie Carballo, the director of North Central College’s Cardinal First initiative. Cardinal First was recently recognized by @Excelencia in Education for their outcomes advancing Latino student success, see more here.
A campus-wide, cohort-based program, Cardinal First supports first-generation students from enrollment to graduation. The mission of Cardinal First is to “provide a supportive and welcoming community for first-generation college students and their families, a campus culture that recognizes and celebrates first-generation student identity as an asset, and a program that intentionally connects first-generation students to faculty, resources, information and experiences that promote academic and personal success.”
Join us as we discover what it took to get this award-winning program off the ground and learn more about how the program’s expansion, Cardinal First Transition, aims to support first-gen transfer students!
